Setup, install & sign-in
Bedrock setup playbook, one device at a time
Install steps for Windows, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Fire, and Chromebook, plus the account and family-privacy checks that pre-empt sign-in loops and the “Buy Again” error. Start from the Download page on this site, then use the Mojang Help article that owns each recovery step. Reviewed 28 August 2026.

Pick the device the player will actually use. Each row jumps to the step-by-step install for that device and the account checks that must be in place first. If any group member is on Mac or Linux, stop and re-read the edition decision — Bedrock is not sold for macOS or Linux.

Install on Windows PC
- Sign in on the Windows machine with the Microsoft account that will own the game. Open account.microsoft.com and confirm you are signed in with the intended email address.
- Open the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app. Sign in with the same Microsoft account if prompted.
- Search for “Minecraft” or open the Java & Bedrock for PC listing on minecraft.net/en-us/get-minecraft/pc. That listing delivers both editions in one purchase on Windows.
- Complete checkout. The Store queues the download to that account's library. Wait for it to finish before launching.
- Launch Minecraft. Choose Bedrock (or Java) from the launcher, sign into your Microsoft account inside the game if prompted, and complete the first launch. The game will confirm entitlement and download the current Bedrock version.
Reference: Microsoft Store: Minecraft for Windows lists the current PC requirements (Windows 10 version 19041.0 or higher, ARM64 or x64, 4 GB memory minimum at the time of writing).
Install on Xbox
- Sign the Xbox in with the Microsoft account that will own the game. For every additional profile that will play online, verify access to the required entitlement; Home Xbox can share eligible online benefits without a separate subscription for each profile.
- Open the Xbox store on the console. Search for Minecraft and complete the purchase on the owning account.
- Wait for the install to finish and confirm the tile shows “Play”, not “Buy”. If it still shows “Buy”, sign out and back in with the purchasing account and give the entitlement 15 minutes to sync.
- To share the copy with other profiles on the same console, set that console as your Home Xbox in Settings > Account. Other profiles on that console can then launch Minecraft for local or split-screen play.
- For any child profile, adjust family privacy in the Microsoft Family group before the child first launches the game — see Microsoft account & family setup below.
Reference: Xbox Support, My Home Xbox for sharing an owned copy across profiles.
Install on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5
- Sign into the PSN account that will play. Purchases attach to this account.
- Open PlayStation Store and search for Minecraft. Buy Minecraft for PS4/PS5.
- Wait for the install to finish, then launch Minecraft. The first launch prompts you to sign into a Microsoft account inside the game — do this with the account you plan to use for cross-play, Realm invites, and Marketplace.
- For online multiplayer with players outside the same console, ensure the PSN account has active PlayStation Plus.
- If a child will play, configure PlayStation parental controls (spending limit, chat, and online play) on the child's PSN account before first launch.
Reference: PlayStation, Minecraft and PlayStation, parents guide to Minecraft. PlayStation uses Minecraft Tokens rather than Minecoins.
Install on Nintendo Switch
- Sign into the Nintendo Account that will play. Open the Nintendo eShop and search for Minecraft. Buy it on that account.
- Wait for the download to finish, then launch Minecraft. On first launch, sign into a Microsoft account inside the game — this is required on Switch as on every Bedrock device, and it controls friends and cross-play.
- For online multiplayer, ensure the Nintendo Account has active Nintendo Switch Online.
- For a child, adjust Nintendo's parental controls (screen time, restricted content, in-game purchases) before the child first launches.
Reference: the Nintendo Switch 2 version has been announced with a 27 October release, per Nintendo; as of 28 August 2026 that release has not shipped, so plan around the current Nintendo Switch version.
Install on iPhone or iPad
- Sign into the Apple ID that will pay. Open the App Store and search for Minecraft.
- Purchase and install. Wait for the download to finish before launching.
- On first launch, sign into a Microsoft account inside the game. Marketplace purchases attach to that Microsoft account across devices, not to the Apple ID.
- For a child, set up Apple Screen Time or Family Sharing purchase approval before handing over the device.
Reference: App Store: Minecraft.
Install on Android, Amazon Fire, or Chromebook
- On Android phones or tablets, and on Chromebook: sign into the Google account that will pay, open Google Play, search for Minecraft, and purchase. Chromebook uses the same Google Play listing.
- On Amazon Fire tablets: sign into your Amazon account, open the Amazon Appstore, search for Minecraft, and purchase.
- On any of these devices, launch the game after install and sign into a Microsoft account inside the game.
- On Amazon Fire, note that Marketplace Pass is not available for purchase on Fire per the official Pass footnotes. Content bought on another platform can still appear when signed in.
Reference: Mojang, Minecraft on Chromebook.
Microsoft account & family setup
Every Bedrock device signs into a Microsoft account inside the game. That account decides friends, Realm invites, Marketplace library, and cross-play permission. For a child, set up the account inside a Microsoft Family group before first launch so the multiplayer button is not greyed out on day one.
- Create the child's Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com with a birth date that matches the child. That birth date is what Microsoft uses to apply child protections.
- Add the child to a Microsoft Family group as a child member from an adult's account.
- Open the Xbox family hub or the equivalent in Microsoft Family. Allow multiplayer, add friends, and chat permissions per your judgement.
- Set spending limits before Minecoins can reach the wallet — refunds after purchase depend on the store's policy and are not guaranteed.
- Sign the child out and back in on any device already signed in with that account, so the setting change takes effect.

First-launch sign-in & entitlement verify
Every Bedrock device asks the player to sign into a Microsoft account inside the game. Use the same account across the household's devices for one player so friends and Marketplace purchases follow that player around.
- Launch Minecraft. Accept the sign-in prompt and use the Microsoft account that owns the entitlement.
- Wait for the game to finish downloading the current Bedrock version. Note the version number in Settings > About — you will need it if a friend cannot join later.
- Open Settings > Profile inside the game. Confirm the display name matches the Microsoft account you expect.
- If the game asks you to Buy Again on this launch, close the game, sign out of the platform store and the Xbox app with any secondary account, sign back in with the owning account, and give the entitlement 15 minutes to sync.
Reference: Xbox Support, purchase issues on console.
Multiplayer & cross-play setup
Bedrock cross-play works only when everyone is on Bedrock (not Java), everyone is signed into a Microsoft account inside the game, everyone is on the same Bedrock version, and cross-play is allowed in the invited account's privacy settings.
- Open Settings > About on every device in the group and compare version numbers. Update the older device first.
- Add friends by their Xbox gamertag inside Minecraft or on the Xbox app or website. Accept the request from the same Microsoft account.
- Confirm multiplayer is allowed in Xbox privacy for each account, including any child accounts.
- On consoles, confirm each online profile has the required platform entitlement. Home Xbox, console sharing, or a family plan may supply it without a separate subscription for every profile; verify the current rule on that console.
- Invite the friend into a world from inside the game. If the invite refuses to connect, run the checks on Multiplayer blocked below before touching network settings.
Reference: Mojang, Java or Bedrock Edition.
Multiplayer blocked, elimination order
- Version mismatch — compare Settings > About and update.
- Wrong Microsoft account signed into the game — sign out and back in.
- Family privacy setting blocking multiplayer on the invited account — change in Xbox family hub from a parent account, then have the child sign out and back in.
- Console online service inactive — renew Xbox online service, PlayStation Plus, or Nintendo Switch Online.
- Only after those four checks pass, look at router or ISP issues.
Buy Again escalation chain
“Buy Again” almost always means the store is signed in with a different Microsoft account than the one that owns the license. Walk this chain top-to-bottom before contacting support.
- Confirm order in your Microsoft account order history at account.microsoft.com/billing/orders. Note the exact email address and order date.
- Confirm the same Microsoft account is signed into the Microsoft Store on Windows and into the Xbox app.
- Confirm the game appears in that account's library — Xbox app > Library or the Store website.
- Sign out of the Store and Xbox app completely, restart the machine, sign back in with the owning account. Give the entitlement 15 minutes to sync.
- If the mismatch persists, open a ticket at aka.ms/Minecraft-Support with the order ID, the exact error text, and the account email. Provide screenshots of Settings > About inside the game if it launches.

Refund routing per store
Refunds are handled by the store that took the payment, not by this site and not by Mojang. Use the correct destination for the store you bought from.
| Store that billed you | Where to request the refund |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Store (Windows) | Xbox refund orders |
| Xbox console | Xbox refund orders |
| PlayStation Store (PS4 / PS5) | PlayStation Store cancellation policy — the account's Transactions page |
| Nintendo eShop (Switch) | Nintendo Support account cancellation contact |
| App Store (iOS) | reportaproblem.apple.com |
| Google Play (Android / Chromebook) | Google Play Store order history > Request refund |
| Amazon Appstore (Fire) | Amazon customer service > digital orders |
Mojang's Marketplace FAQ notes that Minecraft Coin purchases are final. Refund eligibility on any store is set by that store — this site cannot promise or grant one.
